We present "STRAW", a structure of light that emerges in the space between product and installation.
Designed as a framework to hold mass-produced circular fluorescent tubes, this collaborative work by Midori Kawano and Takuro Tamayama brings together light, structure, performing arts, and photography to blur the boundaries between utility and expression — presenting a form that hovers between the everyday and the poetic.
Lighting units composed of 5 to 100 connected fluorescent lamps will be installed.
The 5-lamp unit is arranged in a straight line and placed inside a self-standing hut with an open front.
The 100-lamp unit is formed into an oval shape, slightly lifted from the floor and tilted with a display frame.
The floor surface is covered with a 6m × 8m glossy material to emphasize the reflection of light.
A project by six creators—an artist, architect, performer, photographer, and hair & makeup artist.
Bringing together perspectives on light, structure, the body, spatial experience, and photography, they propose a work that sits between product and art.
