OMOIYARI PROJECT

Compassion and Beauty Within Medical Instruments

In the medical field, the same instrument can be perceived very differently by doctors who use it and patients who experience it. Delivering the most optimal tools requires a shared perspective that connects both sides.

Take, for example, the stent. When we encountered its intricate structure, we discovered not just a medical device, but a manifestation of pure beauty and compassion.

Its very existence embodies gentleness—revealing to us the fundamental value of product design.

To share this realization, designers from diverse fields gathered to create an installation that fuses structural beauty with light. Rather than conveying educational explanations or technical knowledge, our aim is to spark curiosity in the unknown and to share moments of wonder and discovery with visitors.

We invite you to experience the unexpected beauty born from technology infused with compassion, and to glimpse the potential it carries within.

Outline

An installation evoking the breath of life through delicate light and structural beauty.

The work BUDS, created from medical stents, and DANDELION, a 3D-printed artificial flower inspired by their elegance, bloom together across a 15m² space.

At the center, the luminous object The Beats of Existence symbolizes heartbeat and vitality. Its floating light creates gentle shadows, enveloping the venue in an atmosphere of empathy and care.

At the exhibition’s front, with the cooperation of Terumo Corporation, an actual stent model is displayed—offering visitors a rare opportunity to directly encounter the hidden beauty and meaning of a medical device seldom seen in everyday life.

A creative unit formed by a spatial designer, a product designer at a medical device company, and a freelance industrial designer.
In resonance with the philosophy of alter., members from different fields come together to explore and present works around a shared theme in this experimental project.
What we pursue is neither product nor art.
It is the essential value that emerges in the pure pursuit of emotion and creation, and the possibilities it opens.
