Liu Gongzhen

Carpenter and woodwork designer

Gongzhen graduated from the Department of Industrial Design at Takushoku University in 2007 and founded LIU KOBO in 2014. He was involved in the launch of the shared creative office “Kyuu-Gekijou” in Koganecho, Yokohama, where he also established his own workshop.
As a carpenter and woodwork designer, Gongzhen works on a wide range of projects, including interior and exterior construction for shops and residences, as well as custom furniture. His practice is rooted in craftsmanship and driven by a deep respect for materials, blending functionality with a refined design sensibility.

In 2017, he collaborated with artist Mitsuru Tokisato to exhibit a joint work at 21_21 DESIGN SIGHT for the “Athlete” exhibition. In 2021, he created custom display fixtures for the “Papercraft Train” installation at the Romancecar Museum, and in 2025, he was responsible for the construction of Mêlé de chocolat Haru's flagship store.

Actively engaged in local initiatives, Gongzhen also participates in community-based projects in Yokohama, contributing his skills to enrich the region through design and craft.
