Kurara Omichi is based at Uchida Dyeing Factory Co., Ltd., a dye house in Bunkyo, Tokyo with a history of 117 years. As a dyeing artisan, she works with both domestic and international fashion brands, engaging in dyeing production, technical development, and project planning. Utilizing advanced equipment alongside a vast accumulation of technical knowledge and data, she specializes primarily in garment dyeing across a wide range of products. Alongside her industrial practice, she is also active as an independent artist working through dyeing techniques.
Omichi explores the beauty of dyeing that emerges specifically through industrial-scale production processes, while focusing on the subtle variations and unique expressions that arise even within systems of standardization. Through her practice, she investigates how individuality and material sensitivity can exist within repetition and mass production.
